If you aren't familiar with click-stream analysis or have never worked with the powerful information it can produce, we'd like to take a moment to explain.
Client click-stream analysis is a click-by-click view of a visitor's journey (or journeys) through a web site. By viewing a click-stream report, you can follow the exact pathway a visitor took through a web site, even down to the length of time they spent looking at each particular page.
The client click-stream report is extremely easy to read. For example, from the client click-stream analysis report above you can gather the following information on one visitor's journey:
- This is the visitor's 14th visit to the web site.
- Total session time was 8 minutes and 54 seconds.
- The visitor requested 19 web pages. However, they asked for some pages more than once.
- The visitor was most interested in the "product" area of the web site, followed by the ordering pages.
- The visitor's entry page is still the home page even after 14 visits. The exit page was an ordering page.
- The visitor came straight to the web site as soon as they loaded their browser (there was no referring page). From the information contained in the reports, several conclusions can be drawn:
- The visitor's browser home page is the index page.
- They are extremely interested in the products as they viewed several product pages before moving on to the ordering pages.
- The visitor is a qualified sales lead (they checked the pricing of the product three times).
The people most interested in this report would typically be involved in marketing, web design or web development. The information presented provides a click-by-click view of how visitors are interacting and navigating through their web site.
